1.For maritime and land container transport companies:

Real-time tracking of container locations is essential, whether at sea, on roads, or in ports, ensuring precise positioning to prevent loss or misdelivery. Monitoring systems with pre-drilled installation holes must track container status during transit, which may involve unpacking or damage. In areas without internet access like offshore locations, data transmission must remain uninterrupted until network availability is restored. The equipment should operate in standby mode for extended periods to avoid battery drain, while also being resistant to harsh environments including seawater corrosion and extreme temperatures.

2.Foreign trade enterprises:

They need to track container transportation progress, provide timely feedback on cargo locations to clients, and enhance client trust. They must ensure containers are not opened without authorization during transit to safeguard goods’ safety. When containers arrive at ports or destinations, they should receive prompt notifications to facilitate subsequent pickup and customs clearance procedures.

3.Port management

it is necessary to master the location and status of all containers in the port, optimize the port loading and unloading scheduling; monitor whether there are abnormal unpacking and damage of containers, prevent dangerous goods leakage or prohibited goods mixed in; at the same time, it is necessary to count the number and stay time of containers entering and leaving the port, improve the port operation efficiency.

Specific solution content

This solution takes “Internet of Things location technology + high durability GPS locator + solar power supply module + offline data storage module” as the core to realize the whole process of container transportation visualization management, the details are as follows:

1.Real-time positioning module:

A dedicated GPS locator is installed for each container (supporting dual-mode positioning of Beidou + GPS, positioning accuracy: 5-10 meters at sea, 1-3 meters on land). The locator adopts waterproof, corrosion-resistant and impact-resistant design (IP68 protection class, can withstand-40℃-85℃ temperature range, and can resist seawater immersion and transportation bumps).

The positioning device transmits location data via 4G networks (for land-based operations) and satellite communication (when no ground network is available at sea). This data is uploaded in real-time to a cloud management platform, which displays container locations on an electronic map. The platform supports viewing both live and historical trajectories (with traceability up to six months), while allowing users to configure tracking intervals (defaulting to every 10 minutes, with options to adjust to 5-minute or 30-minute intervals).

2.Packaging, punching installation and status monitoring module

Install a punch-through door sensor at the container door hinge (linked to GPS tracker). The sensor is mounted on the container body via drilled holes. When the door is opened (whether legitimate or unauthorized), it immediately sends signals to the GPS tracker. The tracker then transmits the opening details (time, location, duration) to the platform, triggering an alarm.

The positioning device has a built-in vibration sensor. When the container is severely impacted (the vibration amplitude exceeds the set threshold, such as 5G acceleration), it will automatically send a vibration alarm message to indicate that the box may be damaged, and the administrator can arrange inspection.

3.Solar charging module

The locator is equipped with a foldable solar charging plate (expanding area 0.5㎡, conversion efficiency 22%), which is installed on the top of the container. After absorbing sunlight, the solar panel will store the electric energy into the large capacity lithium battery (capacity 10000mAh) built in the locator.

Even in rainy weather (light intensity below 20000lux), the solar panel can charge the battery to ensure that the locator continues to standby for more than 3 months; when the battery power is less than 15%, the platform sends a low power reminder (if the subsequent light is sufficient, the solar panel will automatically charge and restore the power).

4.Offline data storage and upload module

The locator has built-in offline data storage chip, and the storage capacity can record more than 3000 pieces of data (including location, unpacking status, vibration situation, power quantity, etc.). When the locator is in a no-network area (such as far sea, remote mountainous area), the data will be automatically stored in the chip.

Once the network signal is detected (such as entering the port or near the town), the locator will automatically upload the offline stored data to ensure that the data is not lost. After receiving the data, the platform will automatically complete the container trajectory and status records of the period.

5.Functions of the visualization management platform

Supports the screening and query of container information according to container number, transportation route, destination, and transportation status (in transit, waiting for loading, waiting for unloading, completed), showing the real-time location, remaining transportation distance, and estimated arrival time of each container (calculated based on current position and driving speed).

The container transport report is generated, including the number of inbound and outbound containers, transit duration, number of unpacking times, number of abnormal alarm times, etc., and supports export in PDF or Excel format. At the same time, the platform supports multi-terminal access (computer terminal, mobile APP terminal, tablet terminal), so that administrators can view the container situation anytime and anywhere.
